I am V Balaji, currently working as Senior Consultant at Cognizant Technology Solutions. If it was not for the Foundation for Excellence (FFE), I could not have completed my Engineering education and secured this job. I live in Chennai. My association with FFE started in 1999 when I had completed my Secondary School Exam. I belonged to a poor family comprising myself, my parents, Elder brother and Grandmother. At that time, my father, a casual laborer, was the only earning member of the family. It was tough to make both ends meet for my father. I had obtained an excellent score in 10th standard. But financial problems raised questions about my higher education.
At that time, I came to know of FFE from my Sanskrit Teacher Ms. B. Guharini. FFE came as a ray of hope in my life. She had known me for 7 years then and felt FFE could be of great help to me. She was not a FFE facilitator at that time, but had known two facilitators Mr.Vaidyanathan and Mr.Ramanan from Chennai. I appraised my situation to them and with their support, my teacher submitted my application. Thus, my teacher enrolled as Facilitator while processing my application. My application was processed successfully and I completed my Higher Secondary Course with FFE’s financial assistance. I applied for Bachelor of Engineering and studied B.E. (Civil) in College of Engineering, Guindy, and Anna University with FFE's support and completed it in 2005.
By then, I was placed at Cognizant. Since then, I contribute back to FFE regularly. It is through FFE role in the crucial 6 years of my academics that I was transformed and propelled me to success.
“If the mountain does not come to Mohammad, Mohammad must go to the mountain. If the poor cannot come to education, education must reach them at the plough, in the factory, everywhere”, said Swami Vivekananda. Foundation for Excellence works for the above cause envisioned by him of taking education to the masses of the nation. This is the best quote that summarizes FFE’s mission.
