Academic EligibilityThe academic eligibility criteria for professional courses in engineering, technology and medicine are:
- Current FFE scholars and new, first time applicants applying for scholarships to begin studies in professional degree courses in academic year 2009-10 should have passed their higher secondary school, pre-university or intermediate college board examination not earlier than in 2007.
- Continuing FFE scholars should have secured marks equal to or higher than 80% of the marks obtained by the first ranked student in higher secondary school, pre-university or intermediate college Board examination on a statewide basis.
- New, first time applicants should have secured marks equal to or higher than 85% marks of the marks obtained by the first ranked student in the state except that for new students who have completed their higher secondary, pre-university/intermediate college studies in central, state, city/corporation or local government state HS schools and colleges, the marks criteria is 80% of the marks obtained by the first ranked student.
- Current FFE scholars and new, first time applicants seeking admission to central, regional and state level professional education institutions should have obtained an open/general merit rank declared by a government approved organization conducting the entrance testing and admission processes as per the table given below.

- Applicants who do not meet the above specified rank criteria but who have obtained admission to central, regional, state, municipal or other local government owned engineering, technology and medical colleges and who are financially needy may be considered as special cases.
- Applicants who have obtained admission to IITs, NITs, and other centrally administered engineering and medical/dental colleges on the basis of national level tests (JEE, AIEEE, AIPMT, etc.) will be considered as special cases on the basis of their respective merit ranks and financial need.
- Applicants who have obtained admission to professional courses on the basis of entrance tests and admission processes administered by private colleges individually or through a consortium are not eligible for scholarships.
